Meet the animals

Galowras is a working farm, traditionally managed without the use of very large machinery.  It provides visitors with the real farm experience with the feedom to wander and explore.  Visitors are welcome to join in with feeding routines and we are always willing to have a chat about the farm, its history and plans for the future!

Our beautiful pastures are home to a growing beef suckler herd of South and North Devon cattle. These have their calves in March – June each year which suckle their mothers until weaning in January.

Saddleback pigs, born and reared outdoors, have straw bedded huts for shelter and to nest in. Piglets are born every 8 weeks throughout the year and visitors are welcome to get close to these wonderful animals. Children love to help with the feeding!

Also resident at Galowras are an assortment of hens....laying very tasty eggs!

Barn Owls have been nesting in our hay shed since 2002. We have installed cameras in the boxes giving visitors their very own ‘Spring Watch’ on the cottage TV! Owlets hatch in May and the following weeks are characterised by the almost constant hunting and feeding routine of the parents.  The owls are regularly seen flying around the farmstead in the evening and early morning. Witnessing these wonderful birds in flight is a very special experience!
