Galowras is a place for unwinding and relaxing. Step outside the cottage door and 95 acres of beautiful Cornish countryside await you! How you enjoy it is up to you. There is no pressure. Walking, wildlife watching, flying a kite, kicking about a ball or just sitting in a field soaking up the sun or enjoying a good book.

There are many walks through our un-spoilt and tranquil farmland. While walking you may see rabbits, foxes, badgers or deer, and a host of different birds including resident barn owls, buzzards and pheasants. A few minutes from the cottage are two fresh water ponds, home to wild duck and moorhen.

New for 2006, watch our barn owls nesting by live camera link from the barn owl nest boxes direct to your television in the cottage.

A short walk from the cottage takes you to the top of Castle Hill and an earthwork believed to be a Late Iron age/Romano-British round. This provides a stunning vantage point with fine views out to sea.

At the end of the farm lane is Kerthua Park, a small holding breeding alpacas for their wool. The alpaca barn and shop at Kerthua Park is open to visitors selling many unique alpaca gift items and giving the opportunity to meet the alpacas!

Galowras can be enjoyed at any time of the year. During the summer months the wild flower pastures, with their dazzling displays of butterflies and moths are a joy to walk through or to stop for a picnic. Spring time offers the enchantment of wild primroses and carpets of bluebells. While the steep sided valleys and woodland offer shelter and the chance to ramble comfortably in the winter sunshine.

Galowras also provides an ideal base for those wishing to explore further on foot. Within 5 minutes from the cottage you join the public footpath onwards to Gorran Church Town or Portmellon and the coastal footpath.

A favorite is an evening walk through the wooded valley to Portmellon with its sandy beach and waterside pub.

We are happy to provide further information on local walks and places of interest. For those interested in country sports clay pigeon shooting can be arranged for beginners or experienced shots with professional coaching. Game shooting is available during the season. Prior booking is necessary for these activities.
